Short answer: The best online casino in the Netherlands is, first of all, a legal one: it must hold a licence from the Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa), the Dutch gambling regulator. Beyond that, "best" depends on clear terms, a smooth payout to your own Dutch bank account and strong player protection. Sites with only a UK, Malta or Curaçao licence are not legal for players living in the Netherlands.

Search for the best online casino in English and most results are written for players in the UK or "the rest of the world". Yet you live in the Netherlands, so Dutch law decides which sites you may use. This guide explains what "best" can honestly mean for you and how to compare casinos yourself, without relying on anyone's ranking, including ours.
What does "best online casino Netherlands" actually mean?
There is no official ranking. The Kansspelautoriteit does not award places or stars. It only decides who gets a licence and checks whether licence holders follow the rules. Every "best online casino Netherlands" list you see is therefore an opinion from a website.
A useful opinion explains its criteria, so you can check them. A weak one shows a score like "9.8/10" without saying where the number comes from. Before you trust any list, ask two questions: are all sites on it licensed in the Netherlands, and is it clear why one site ranks above another?
For you as a resident, "best" also has a practical side: the casino must work with your Dutch identity checks and bank account, and offer enough English that you understand the rules you agree to.
Is there one best Dutch online casino for everyone?
No. Someone who plays a few euros on slots once a month needs different things from someone who mostly plays live blackjack. What every player needs is the same base: a valid Ksa licence, fair terms, reliable payouts and good tools to stay in control. Everything else is personal preference. For a broader introduction to the legal market, see our guide to online casinos in the Netherlands.
How do we rate the best online casinos in the Netherlands?
We look at every casino in the same way, using four parts. A casino without a Ksa licence is not rated and not mentioned at all, however good it looks. Our full method is described on our page about how we review casinos (in Dutch).

| Part | Score | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Licence | 1 to 5 | Is the operator listed in the Ksa register with a valid licence for online games of chance, and under which company name? |
| Terms | 1 to 5 | Clear general terms and bonus terms: wagering requirements, maximum bet, validity, withdrawal rules and any fees. Fairness counts, not the size of an offer. |
| Payouts | 1 to 5 | Which methods are available, whether there are fees, how verification works and how long it takes before money reaches your account. |
| Player protection | 1 to 5 | How easily you set and lower limits, reminders about playing time, how visible help is and how the casino responds to signs of risky play. |
The final score is the simple average of these four parts. There are no hidden weights. One rule overrides the average: a fail on licence or on player protection can never be compensated by the other parts. A casino with weak protection cannot end up high on our list because its payouts are quick.
A worked example
Say a casino scores licence 5, terms 3, payouts 4 and player protection 4. The average is (5 + 3 + 4 + 4) / 4 = 4.0 out of 5. A second casino with the same scores but a 1 for player protection would still average 3.25. Because protection failed, it still does not rank well.
What we describe but do not score
Game range, live casino, mobile play and support languages do not count towards the score, but we describe them. For English speakers, we note whether support and the terms are available in English.
Which licensed casinos are we reviewing?
Below are the licensed operators we review for this guide. We only include casinos that hold a valid licence from the Kansspelautoriteit. While our assessment is still under way, the places are empty and there is no ranking yet.

Why are many English "best casino" lists misleading for NL residents?
An English list is not wrong because it is in English. The problem is a list written for another market that still reaches you in the Netherlands. Three issues come up most.

1. A UK or Curaçao licence does not count here
Many lists recommend sites licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, Malta or Curaçao. Those licences may be valid in other countries, but they do not allow an operator to offer online casino games to people living in the Netherlands. For you, only a Ksa licence counts. A site without one is illegal for Dutch residents, no matter how reputable it is in its home market.
At such a site you miss the Dutch safeguards: no Cruks check, no mandatory limits, no Dutch supervision and no Dutch complaints route. If you win, you have to declare and pay the gambling tax yourself, and there is no guarantee you get paid at all. We explain the legal background in our guide on whether online gambling is legal in the Netherlands.
Warning: if a list includes a casino you cannot find in the Ksa register, do not trust the rest of the list either. A Dutch flag, an iDEAL logo or an "18+" badge on a website proves nothing.
2. Affiliate payments can shape the order
Most comparison sites, ours included, can earn money when a visitor opens an account through their link. This is called affiliate marketing. It is not forbidden, but it can influence rankings: the casino that pays most ends up on top. An honest site explains how it earns money and keeps the order independent from those payments. We explain our model on the page how we make money (in Dutch). A place on our list cannot be bought.
Under Dutch rules, advertising for online gambling, including through comparison sites, is only allowed for licence holders. It must be recognisable as advertising, must not target people under 24, and the operator must be identifiable. The Ksa wrote to affiliate sites in 2025 and 2026 and published guidance on untargeted advertising on 18 March 2026.
3. "Bonus-first" rankings
Many international lists sort casinos by bonus size, which says little about quality: the terms decide whether an offer is worth anything. Some lists also praise features that are not allowed for licensed Dutch casinos, such as autoplay, bought bonus rounds that play automatically, or cashback on losses. A list that celebrates these is clearly not written for the Dutch market.
How do you compare the best casinos in the Netherlands yourself?
You do not need a ranking to make a sensible choice. With the steps below you can compare two or three licensed casinos in about half an hour. Do this before you register and deposit.

- Check the licence in the register
Look up the operator in the Ksa register of licensees. It is searchable by company name, website or licence number. Compare the company name at the bottom of the casino's website with the register. - Check the language
Licensed Dutch casinos are aimed at the Dutch market, so their main language is Dutch. Many also offer an English version. Check that the general terms, bonus terms and limit settings are available in English, not just the homepage. - Read the withdrawal rules
Look for minimum amounts, fees, processing times and which documents you need to provide. Payouts always go to a bank account in your own name. - Look at deposit and payout methods
iDEAL is the most used deposit method at licensed Dutch casinos. You cannot withdraw via iDEAL itself: withdrawals go by bank transfer to your own IBAN. Read more in our guide to iDEAL at online casinos. - Test the limits and help options
How do you set a deposit limit, and how quickly can you lower it? Can you take a break? Every licensed casino must offer this, but the difference is in how easy it is. - Ask customer service a question in English
Ask something concrete, such as how long a withdrawal takes. Note whether you get a clear answer in English, and how fast. - Score each part from 1 to 5
Use our four parts, or add your own preferences on top. Writing scores down keeps the comparison fair.

What should English speakers in the Netherlands check in particular?
Playing legally in the Netherlands works the same for everyone, whatever your nationality. But a few things work differently from what you may know from home.
Your identity: iDIN and ID checks
A licensed casino must verify your identity and age before you play. Anonymous play is not possible. Many casinos use iDIN, which lets you identify yourself through your Dutch bank's login. If you are new to the Netherlands and do not have a Dutch bank account yet, ask the casino in advance which other verification it accepts. Make sure your personal details match your ID exactly, since the casino needs to identify you before it can check Cruks.
Your bank account: payouts to your own IBAN
Withdrawals go to a bank account in your own name. Plan for this: a joint account, a partner's account or a friend's account will not work. If your main account is abroad, check the casino's terms on which accounts it accepts before you deposit. Our guide to fast payout casinos explains what affects payout speed.
Cruks applies to you too
Cruks is the Dutch central register for exclusion from games of chance. Licensed casinos must check it before you play, regardless of your nationality. You can register yourself via DigiD for at least 6 months, and you cannot deregister earlier. Relatives can ask the Ksa for an involuntary registration. More background is in our page on Cruks (in Dutch).
Tax: nothing to pay at a licensed casino
At a Ksa-licensed casino you pay no gambling tax and have nothing to declare. The casino pays the tax (37.8% in 2026) on its gross gaming revenue. At an illegal foreign site you would have to declare your monthly result yourself.
The Dutch slogan you will see everywhere
Since 1 April 2022, gambling ads in the Netherlands must carry the slogan "Wat kost gokken jou? Stop op tijd. 18+". In English this means: "What does gambling cost you? Stop in time. 18+". It is a mandatory reminder, not a marketing line. If a site that claims to serve Dutch players never shows it, that is worth noticing.
How do you keep gambling under control at any casino?
Even the casino at the top of an honest list earns money from players in the long run. Every game has a built-in house edge. See gambling as entertainment you pay for, never as a way to make money.
- Decide in advance how much you can afford to lose and set that as your deposit limit.
- Set a maximum playing time and stop when you reach it.
- Never try to win back losses.
Licensed casinos must make you set limits. If you want to deposit more than €700 net per month (age 24 and over) or €300 net per month (age 18 to 23), the casino must first carry out an affordability check. If you feel you are playing more than you want, call Open over gokken, the Ksa's help platform: 0800-24 000 22, free, anonymous and available 24/7. The service is Dutch, so ask at the start of the call whether help in English is possible.
Frequently asked questions about the best online casino in the Netherlands
Which online casino is the best in the Netherlands?
There is no official answer. Choose only from casinos with a Ksa licence and compare them on licence, terms, payouts and player protection. For English speakers, also check whether the terms and support are available in English.
Can I play at a UK-licensed casino while living in the Netherlands?
No, not legally. A UK, Malta or Curaçao licence does not allow an operator to offer online casino games to Dutch residents. Only operators with a licence from the Kansspelautoriteit may do so.
Are Dutch online casinos available in English?
Their main language is Dutch, but many licensed casinos also offer an English version. Check that the full terms and the limit settings are in English, not just the homepage, before you register.
Do I need a Dutch bank account to play?
Payouts go to a bank account in your own name. Many casinos use iDIN through a Dutch bank for identity checks. Without a Dutch account, check the casino's terms on accepted accounts and verification options before you register.
Why are there no casinos on your list yet?
Because our assessment is still under way. We will only fill the list once each casino has been rated on the same four parts, and we only include operators with a valid Ksa licence.
What changed in 2026?
For anyone comparing casinos, 2026 was a significant year. The first licences from 2021 expired at the end of September 2026, and on 17 September 2026 the Ksa granted the first eight follow-up licences. New Ksa policy rules for licensing have applied since 1 January 2026, so older lists may be out of date.
The gambling tax that casinos pay rose from 34.2% to 37.8% on 1 January 2026. On 18 March 2026 the Ksa published guidance on the ban on untargeted advertising. On 12 June 2026 the Dutch cabinet proposed, among other things, a near-total advertising ban, a bonus ban, an overall deposit limit across all sites and research into fewer licences. These are proposals, not law yet.
